2015 DANCIN Vineyards Quartette Oregon Pinot Noir
Winemaker: Brian Denner

Tasting Notes:

Early nose shows character of dark, ripe plum, white pepper and truffle. The palate unfolds into rich, ripe fruits balanced with the earthiness of the truffle notes warming into a long finish textured with ripe tannins.

This fusion of Pinot Noir grapes is comprised of 50% Dancin Estate Vineyard, 17% Adelsheim Vineyard, 17% Hyland Vineyard & 16% Aegrina Vineyard. The blend of north & south fruit lends itself to bringing out the best characteristics in both regions. 2015 was a very good year. Once bottled this promises to be a very good vintage.

DANCIN is a love story. It’s the marriage of science and art. The pairing of fine wines with delicious food, and the sincere passion of Dan and Cindy. Within a year of their storybook meeting in 1995, Dan and Cindy (DANCIN) began researching wine and viticulture at UC Davis. Twelve years later, they discovered a perfect plot of land nestled in the forested foothills of Southern Oregon, just outside of the gold rush community of Jacksonville. With its northwest facing slope, it would become the perfect terroir for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with a sense of place.

 Lot # 104Pearl Family Vineyards

Introducing, the 2015 Cuckoo’s Nest Cellars Pinot Noir
Winemaker: Bryan Wilson
Fruit Donor: Pearl Family Vineyards
Full barrel available for auction
Release Date: Projected Spring 2017

Tasting Notes:

Antithesis is the word used by the winemaker to describe his 2015 Pinot Noir from Redlands Vineyard in the Applegate Valley. His “stylistic goal” for this wine was to “craft a delicate, fresh and racy style that is quite contrary to the dark, extracted, oaky and brooding Pinots that seem to be currently in vogue.” A bouquet of crushed raspberry and plum mingle with notes of floral lavender & rose petal, tinged with orange peel amidst a subtle background of barrel spices. Feminine vitality is at its core. Lighter in color, with a vibrant acidity, silky smoothness and zesty intensity of ripe red fruits, this unique style of Pinot Noir will deliver a rich juiciness if allowed to age or a lush freshness if quaffed in its youth.

This is one of only seven barrels produced. The vineyard is farmed by the Pearl Family and is situated along the alluvial plain of the Applegate River near the confluence of the Rogue River, where afternoon breezes ruffle the vines and cool the grapes. A perfect fortune of opportunity to grow a unique Pinot Noir grape. There was no new French Oak used in the barrel aging. The wine is due to be released after six to nine months of bottle age.

Winemaker background:

“My journey with Pinot noir may best be described as a northerly migration that started in the late 1980’s, way down south in Santa Barbara County, and eventually making it as far north as the Eola-Amity Hills.  In the south, working with fruit from the then nascent Bien Nacido Vineyards, my search for and experimentation with cool climate vineyard sources meandered through Carneros, out to Occidental and up the then just being discovered Sonoma Coast.  Making it to the Illinois Valley in 1995 and then on to the south Willamette Valley, where I worked with fruit from the fog tempered town of Elkton in the Umpqua Valley to the diverse soil types of the Eola-Amity hills, it’s been a rewarding journey that’s given me a broad insight into the elusive and seductive world of Pinot noir.”

Release Date: Fall 2016

This deeply colored full bodied Tempranillo wine is made from Spain’s noble grape. It has aromas and flavors of Plums, Tobacco leaves, leather, and Mushrooms. The name Tempranillo is derived from the word Temprano (early), and refers to the fact that it ripens earlier than most varieties. It also buds out later in the spring so it is a good match for the frosty spring and fall mornings of the Applegate Valley. The 2014 Tempranillo was harvested on October 18 at 24 brix, cold soaked for five days and then fermentation was initiated and delicately ushered to completion on October 29.

Lot # 104

Introducing, the DANCIN Vineyards 2014 Southern Oregon “Danseur” Syrah
10 case shares available for auction
Release Date: Summer 2016

The 2014 DANCIN Vineyards Syrah was harvested at daybreak on the 11th of October and crushed thirty minutes later at our gravity flow winery. The grape clusters were meticulously hand-sorted and fed into our ultra-gentle de-stemmer, which then falls onto our secondary, custom designed, vibrating berry-sorting table. The de-stemmed grapes are then carefully hand-sorted again, all while the sorting table sifts out all raisins, green berries, or anything other than perfect, intact Syrah grapes. The fruit then gently falls into our fermentation bins via gravity.

Following a 5 to 6 day cold soak to extract color and flavor, the native yeast from the vineyard initiates fermentation. The bins were then punched down by hand every 8 hours during the most vigorous stage of fermentation, and then punched down less as this natural process we so carefully shepherd completes its destiny. Upon completion of fermentation, the bins are drained via gravity directly to French oak, after which the grape skins are sorted again as they are fed via gravity into the press. The wine then completes Malolactic fermentation in barrel and is aged in our temperature controlled barrel room for 16 months. It will be bottled un-fined and un-filtered in the early part of 2016. Anticipated release during the summer of 2016.

Tasting Notes:

The nose opens with notes of lavender, cocoa bean, spicy agave, and ripe blueberry. The intense beam of dark ripe fruit on the palate is framed by round tannins, a creamy mouthfeel, and a rich lingering finish.
